FAQs

What’s the best way to describe your Scavenger Hunts?

Self-paced, day—drinking encouraged explorations of the hidden gems of the Crescent City as curated by Hunter B Scavenge and presented to you in a kaleidoscope of riddles with a chaser of historical trivia and a dash of local charm. We think it’s the absolute best way to spend an afternoon in New Orleans whether you’re a local or just passing through! A uniquely fun thing to do in New Orleans today or any day.

What does the “B” stand for in Hunter B. Scavenge?

Booze! As in “booze is my middle name” ;) Most Hunts have been inspired by Hunter’s day-drinking adventures. Your very own boozy adventure today in New Orleans awaits.

*Disclaimer: Hunts lead you to the drinking opportunities, drink purchases are entirely left up to you, however.

What if I don’t drink booze/Can we bring the kids?

Our original Hunts are day-drinking encouraged ones that will visit bars and many of the bars in New Orleans have poker machines, which prohibit anyone under 21 years of age from being inside that bar unless the machine is in a separate, closed off area blah blah blah, It gets complicated….we are working on adding Hunts more appropriate for the teetotalers and kiddos, stay tuned and sign up here for our newsletter to find out when new Hunts are added.

How do the Scavenger Hunts work?

From within the HunterBNOLA app (between the hours of noon and 6pm CT) you will be given riddles to solve which will lead to destinations that we consider to be the hidden gems of New Orleans. While there, you can try sweet talking the local folks to help you answer the bonus questions as well as choose to patronize the local business destinations plus answer Crescent City trivia questions for even more points. Points are earned throughout for correct answers. Our Hunts are not a race, but rather an immersive way to discover (or re-discover) this magnificently enchanting city. For more info on how to play click here.

How long does a Scavenger Hunt take?

If you really rush through them, you could finish one in as little as an hour. We recommend taking your time and experiencing what each hand-picked destination has to offer as it’s a great way to discover some of the city’s hidden gems, away from the obvious chaos of Bourbon Street. If you take your time, a Hunt could last all afternoon, it’s really up to you. The Hunts are open from noon to 6pm CT to coordinate with the business hours of most destinations along the Hunts.

Can I take a Scavenger Hunt on any day I want?

Yes! The destinations we have included in the Hunts are open 7 days a week, however, some do close on major holidays like Christmas and Mardi Gras Day - plan accordingly. Additionally, upon occasion here in New Orleans, some businesses will shut down for a vacation, or to do renovations, or who knows why…they just do (oh NOLA) so, there could be a closed destination but, it would be rare and would not impact your ability to play. There is no requirement to enter a destination on the Hunts, they’re just designed to be more immersive that way.

Since the Scavenger Hunts close at 6pm when is the best time to begin?

We recommend you start your Hunt no later than 3pm as some of the destinations close at 6pm and one or two close at 5pm. It’s certainly not the end of the world if you arrive at a destination and find it closed, as we’ve tried to make the bonus questions for those particular destinations something you could likely answer on your own, or skipping the question is always an option. We do want you to have the fullest experience possible so, we encourage you to start early enough for every destination to be open. Hunts are open from noon to 6pm CT, 7 days a week.

Are these Scavenger Hunts good for first time-visitors to New Orleans?

We think we’ve made the riddles challenging enough for repeat visitors yet, we’ve added in hints to make it easy for first-timers to progress through the Hunts, too. Our hints are where you will find fascinating historical tidbits about the Crescent City so, we encourage you to use them…even if you don’t need them. Each destination riddle has 3 hints and allows for 4 guesses before automatically moving you forward and revealing the destination for those unable to guess it. Bonus questions can be skipped to move forward. You won’t get stuck at any point.

Can multiple devices be logged in to my Scavenger Hunt?

No, each Hunt purchased is only valid for one device. We recommend teams of no more than three at the most for the best possible experience using a single device.  You may, of course, download the app on additional devices and also purchase the same Hunt to use more than one device.

I have a large group, how do we play?

We suggest teams of no more than three per device so, with a larger group you would want to download the app on additional devices and purchase additional hunts so that you may use multiple devices.  If you’d like to make it a bit more competitive, we suggest staggering your teams’ start times and comparing your points at the end to determine the ultimate winning team of Hunters!

How is this different than all those other Scavenger Hunts?

Our Hunts are intimately specific to the Crescent City, immersing you in the city and revealing our picks for the best places to go in New Orleans as well as some of the most interesting historical facts. It’s as if you asked your local friends for their recommendations of where to go and what to do in New Orleans and they sent you to all their favorite places but, in the form of riddles you need to solve to find them. Plus, you’ll learn about the Crescent City while you’re at it from the bits of historical trivia sprinkled throughout your Hunt. And well…there’s the day-drinking opportunities!

What do I do if I experience a technical issue on my Scavenger Hunt?

We test our app thoroughly so, we hope you do not experience an issue, however, if you do, we recommend first troubleshooting by powering down your phone, waiting 10 seconds, and powering back up again.  If powering down did not fix the issue, please contact us here and select ‘technical issue’ as the type of inquiry so we may expedite assistance.
